More and more growers are recognizing the benefits of regional excellence exemplified by The Stone Seed Group. They have seen how it makes their business more profitable and successful. In the past year, two respected, regional companies joined forces with Stone Seed Co. to establish The Stone Seed Group. In less than a year, our business has more than tripled in size, introducing more and more growers to the advantages of dominating products, coupled with the best people in the industry. This is just the start of an exciting future. We will continue to build on the strong foundations established by these three companies.

Regional excellence is not just a phrase but rather the way we have designed and strive to operate our business. We have discovered that people who have the desire to be the very best at what they do, attract others with the same goals. We have been given tremendous opportunities over the past year. In June, Sieben Hybrids joined our team and in February we were joined by Moweaqua Seed Co.   Seldom, if ever, is one given the opportunity to work with a greater group of dedicated professionals. We at Stone Seed have always been driven to be the best we can, and the folks at Sieben’s and Moweaqua are of the same mold. We work together as a team, encouraging each other to become even better for you, our customers.

When you get to know the outstanding sales and support staff The Stone Seed Group has assembled, it is obvious that the best want to work with the best. I am humbled by the outstanding people who have chosen to join our team. In 28 years of running a seed business I have never seen a more driven or dedicated group.

A very important factor, when you have an absolute quest for excellence, is focus. No entity can be everything to everyone. Our focus is Regional Excellence. No, we won’t have hybrids for the entire corn belt, but we will have the best performing genetics for our area. A great example is our stellar performer 8K339. It dominated everywhere it was placed last season. And not just by a bit. In some cases, 8K339 was 50 bu/acre better than the competitions’ best. This product is just one of our Dominator series of genetics.   Very aptly named, their mission is to dominate the competition. This season’s new lineup is even more impressive! Not only have we taken the yield level up a notch, but have also strengthened the agronomic package.

YieldGard VT is the next generation of YieldGard stacked trait hybrids with improved consistency, even better insect control and higher yield potential.

VecTran Technology is a more precise agrobacterium-mediated insertion process that provides a better opportunity to place genes on the DNA strands on which optimal performance of the stacked traits is achieved. The stacked-trait hybrids contain a highly active and more consistent promoter of the rootworm gene, resulting in more effective distribution of the protein in the root and a more consistent barrier of protection against corn rootworm. With YieldGard VT, the result is elite-germplasm hybrids with higher yields, delivered to the marketplace sooner.

The Stone Seed Group has several YieldGard VT Triple products. These products (designed with a “T” in their name) are vector stacked combinations of Monsanto’s YieldGard Rootworm corn Roundup Ready 2 technology combined through breeding with YieldGard Corn Borer. Yield potential for these products is higher for two reasons:

• More consistent expression of the protein that control corn rootworms results in higher yield.

• YieldGard VT Triple is only available in the latest high yielding germplasm.

With the dramatic increase of products containing various traits, Stone Seed has developed a labeling system to identify hybrids more clearly and efficiently. This system conveys large amounts of information, yet is easy to understand. Traited hybrids released by Stone Seed will be alpha-numeric with the trait(s) they contain easily identifiable. The hybrid’s maturity will also be apparent from its name. Listed are the Trait Codes, and Maturity Guides.

The 1st number in the name of the hybrid corresponds to its maturity. This chart is relatively precise for Growing Degree Days to maturity, but a bit less so for relative maturity, which is subject to a North/South variance.

This hybrid is in the #6 maturity range (approx. 107 days) and is a Roundup Ready/YieldGard Corn Borer hybrid.
